Programme
The programme consists of three essential parts – preparatory workshops, final simulation and numerous side-events.
Workshops – Getting to know how it works
During the academic year and prior to the Prague Student Summit conference, five preparatory workshops are held on the premises of the University of Economics, Prague. The first aim of the workshops is to help the participants address the challenges they face, such as expressing themselves in a foreign language, accustoming to a different learning environment and getting familiar with issues they might not have heard of before. Once this is assured, the focus moves to current security affairs and the Alliance itself. Various guests from the fields of politics, diplomacy and academia are invited to discuss their views and share their personal experience with the delegates. Conference – Experiencing a NATO Summit
The climax of the programme is the final North Atlantic Council simulation within the framework of the Prague Student Summit. Held in March in some of Prague’s most prestigious venues such as the Hilton Prague, the Municipal House or the Prague Congress Centre, the event provides a real atmosphere of a diplomatic gathering. The students spend three days solving the most striking issues of the Alliance. Since the decision-making process is consensual, they are forced to find a compromise. Rather than competing, they learn to work in a team towards a common goal.
Side-Events – Seeing some more
Side-events bring added value to the traditional scheme and assure that our participants gain some more first-hand experience of the Alliance and in particular, the role of the Czech Republic within it. In the past, such events as the field trip to the Čáslav Aircraft Base, working dinner with the former Czech Ambassador to NATO Štefan Füle, or video-conference with Czech soldiers in Afghanistan were organized.
